Andy’s Coming!

The third grader’s lined up in the hallway outside my classroom like always. Their teacher turned to leave, but then quickly spun around and said, “Andy’s coming!”

Instantly, the whole class fell to the floor like a bunch of rag dolls. What in the world?!

Then it dawned on me: they were acting out a famous scene from the original Toy Story movie. The toys become lifeless whenever their young owner (Andy) comes around.

What the children did is a wonderful example of a class celebration–a mini flash mob to build camaraderie.

The whole scene brought to mind the certainty of the return of Christ, and the church’s possible reaction. How would you and I respond if the clouds parted and the trumpet sounded and someone said, “Jesus is coming!”?

It will be good for those servants whose master finds them watching when He comes.

    Very thought provoking question. It makes you stop and examine where you are in Christ. When He suddenly returns we must be ready and living a life pleasing to Him.

    Yes indeed, Beth. That particular third grade class is super in tune with their teacher. They never know when she might call for a class room celebration. The same should be said for those who await the second coming of Christ. Thank you for your input. God Bless.

    What an incredible teacher. Her students will never forget “Andy’s coming.” Chances are they’ll tell this to their kids and grandkids someday. May we be the same and never forget that “Jesus is coming” and tell this along with Jesus’ warning to be watchful to our kids and grandkids.

    I’m somewhat unsure how I would react if someone said, “Jesus is coming!” Part of me thinks I’d be awestruck, but another part wonders and worries I wouldn’t be prepared to meet Him. Thank you for stopping by!

    Toy Story was the first movie I took my oldest son too. He was two years old. I remember he was a little scared of Sid’s dog. Yes, it’s so easy to get complacent. This “out of the blue” moment really stretched my imagination too! Thank you for sharing.

    I loved watching Toy Story with my kids when they were young. One of the best movies ever!
    And what a thought-provoking post. We get so used to thinking that Jesus won’t really come back in our life time that it’s easy to slide into complacency. But this stretches my imagination. How wonderful it will be to see Jesus coming in all His glory … and to see Him actually coming for US! Wow!

    Such creativity in a fellow teacher. The kiddos will always remember her and the fun atmosphere she created. And then, of course, adding your own spin on the narrative to remind us that Jesus is coming. 👏👏👏
