The Promise of Rain

The parched ground shall become a pool, and the thirsty land springs of water.

Isaiah 35:7a (NKJV)

Summers are hot and muggy, here in the South-Central U.S., and the creeks, which are not spring fed, start to dry up without regular rain.

This time of year, most days are copy-and-paste: windy and warm with nothing but sunshine. After a while, it can start to feel stagnant.

I’ve experienced times like these spiritually, as well, when it feels like my fellowship with God is drying up by the day. Can you relate?

Thankfully, with the Lord, delayed is not denied. As promised, He sends a refreshing rain, but always on his timetable.

The same creek after a good rain.

Let us know, let us pursue the knowledge of the Lord. His going forth is established as the morning; He will come to us like the rain, like the latter and former rain to the earth.

Hosea 6:3 (NKJV)

Kind reader, as you probably know, there’s nothing as good as knowing the Lord, except getting to know him better! And he always comes through with his promises—as sure as the sunrise! In the meantime, may we walk by faith, assured that we are safe in his hands.

Thank you for reading. 🙏❤️prayers and love.

I feel like the second coming of Christ is like the promise of rain.

I’m sorry it took me so long to approve your comment, Tina. I reported back to work at school this week and have been away from the blogosphere. Yes, it’s wonderful how God brings us just the seasons we need when we need them most.

Thanks for the encouraging reflection, David. Long days of heat can definitely drag on. Thankfully, the Lord did create different seasons so we are never left in the heat or cold too long, well unless you live somewhere where the weather’s pretty consistent year round I guess. 😁 I’m not sure what to say to that. But spiritually speaking, we have hope and strength in Him as we wait out our change in the weather.

We have had a a lot of rain up here north of you finally broke the drought. But the heat is coming back.
    Rain helps me sleep.
When I think of refreshing rain, I think of how rain cools everything down as fall arrives.

You often bring deeper insights to my wee thoughts, as you would say, brother Alan. 😊🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 You are spot on! God can offer us a refreshing spiritual drink all day long, but unless we are truly thirsty we will miss the blessing. 🙏🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿🇺🇸

David, so glad that the Lord, quenches our thirst. We can live in the living Word and be satisfied with his refreshing water.

“But they delight in the law of the Lord, meditating on it day and night. They are like trees planted along the riverbank, bearing fruit each season. Their leaves never wither, and they prosper in all they do.”

I also enjoyed God’s physical refreshment this morning:

Light rain patters against an Iowa canopy

of sycamores and my plaid umbrella,

    a long-ago souvenir from Edinburgh

Thank you for this insightful post David. It had me thinking about how water tastes so much better when we are thirsty; it is the same with God’s living water – we are more blessed the more thirsty we are for Him. God bless you and Nancy today 🙏 🇺🇸🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

Yes, and amen, sister Bridget! Thankfully, God’s presence in our lives isn’t dependent on our feelings. He’s the same 24/7/365!🤗

Thank you, Betty. I first heard these words used in reference to the civil rights movement of the 1960s. I hope you and Dan have a wonderful day!

Such an encouraging reminder. The Lord is so faithful to us, and He rewards those who diligently seek Him. What a gift we have in Him 🙌

Those rains of refreshing are so precious, and make such a difference, when we begin to weary in prayer.
“There’s nothing as good as knowing the Lord, except getting to know him better!” This is an important truth to journey through life with.

“…delayed is not denied…” is a great phrase, David. Those few words encourage patience and faith and provide hope. I have a feeling that phrase is going to stick with me for quite a while.
