Before the Door Opens (Wonderful Tonight: Her Version)

🎶“It’s late in the evening; she’s wondering what clothes to wear.”🎶 The opening line of a famous song describes a woman choosing an outfit, yet it draws the listener in. Plenty of us can picture the scene, because we’ve lived it. Decisions: they can make or break us. Something tells me the lady in Clapton’s tune makes a fashionable choice. I see her, beautiful and statuesque, picking the perfect cocktail dress. Color doesn’t matter; it’s the man she keeps waiting who’d better realize how much she does. At least this is what’s going through her mind, late in the evening.

Kind reader, this is a Drabble, a short fictional story of exactly 100 words. Thank you for reading. 🙏❤️ prayers and love.

Thanks, brother! I’m already considering a more plot-driven story, instead of observational.

I agree with Barb. I’d love to see you do more of this, similar how you did with your Haiku. I think the word limitation makes it particularly challenging but it’s a good exercise helping us, as writers, practice using only the words we need. I enjoyed reading this Drabble as well. Blessings!

Thank you, Chris. I can tell you spent time in advertising. Economy of words is certainly your practice. I appreciare the encouragement. God Bless!

It’s great that you are experimenting with different writing styles and formats. 100 word fiction is a great way to hone your writing skills. Early in my career I used to write a lot of print ads where I would only have 25-30 words to interest the reader. It was a great discipline where a lot of emphasis went into that first sentence to interest the reader. Keep on writing David!

Thank you, Matthew. When I started, all I had was the first line of the song. I decided to tell the story from the girl’s perspective.

Micro fiction is a great exercise David – we should all try it now and again. This is a great example brother! May our Father God guide and bless you and Nancy on this Lord’s day 🙏 🇺🇸🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

I like it too, Barb. My next challenge is to write a Drabble that is more plot-driven. Thanks for reading and commenting. God Bless!

I enjoy the constraints of 100 words.

I hope you do more of this.

I’m fine, Nadine. Thank you for asking. I shared a “regular” one of my blog posts this morning. This is my experiment with micro-fiction, which is not my normal post. I’m sorry for the confusion. God Bless!
