Find the Good

“But Mary treasured up all these things and pondered them in her heart.” Luke 2:9

Pastorpete51 of Praise2worshipdotnet recently shared a superb story about the mother of Jesus from a fresh angle. Mary’s Treasure focuses on the fact that this young (very pregnant) woman had just traveled a considerable distance and then given birth in a stable.

Pastor Pete sets the scene:

Finally, just as Mary and her newborn baby settled off to sleep, a crowd of shepherds stampeded in and began singing and shouting something about angels.

But rather than being annoyed, the Bible says Mary “Treasured all these things and pondered them in her heart.”

In other words, she recognized that the events unfolding around her were a fulfillment of what the angel Gabriel told her nine months earlier.

If you don’t already follow Pastor Pete’s blog, please check it out! He shares some great scriptural thoughts, sprinkled with personal stories and music. Again, it’s called praise2worshipdotnet.

I have these two bracelets that I often wear–doubled up, just like this. They remind me that I need to look twice as hard for the good.

I think that’s what Mary did. After traveling 90 miles by donkey to give birth in a barn, she treasured the shepherd’s story of how angels told them about her newborn son.

She found the good. And so can we.

No, everything that happens to us isn’t going to be positive, but our response CAN be.

Thank God for Mary, who agreed to be the mother of Jesus Christ. She went through more trauma (and later, grief) than most moms, but I believe she kept the faith.

For a look at why finding the good–especially these days–is more important than ever, please read my post, The Sky is Probably NOT Falling.

I know to look for the good, yet I always seem to need the reminder. Even double reminders.

Thanks for sharing, Amanda (Matcha). Your mother was right, there will always be good to find—somewhere, some how.

You perfectly summed up my outlook on life (once I readjusted it post COVID).

We should always look for the good because no matter what the good is always there.

There was a time period where I questioned how good this world really is. My mother’s response was “The world will always have good. There will always be people getting married, babies being born, celebrations [and acts of the heart].”

No matter what hardships she may have faced, Mary had the ultimate good, the Son of God.

    Thanks for posting!

“How big or small do I want my focus on the world to be?” I like it a lot! There are always options—good ones and bad ones. Thank you for sharing. Blessings.

A shift of perspective is always a helpful practice. I look at it as how big or how small do I want my focus on the world to be. Things can undoubtedly always be worse yet I choose to see the silver lining in each circumstance and situation because in there lies the lesson. God does indeed work in mysterious ways, yet He is always providing us unconditional love, support and guidance that’s available for the asking🙏

We can never hear enough about the real Mary, but not the stately serene saint that we see in media and in some churches, but the young girl that you present here David. Thank you brother.

Thanks for reading and commenting. I didn’t intend to post twice today, but for some reason it happened. Perhaps it’s what God had in mind all along.

Perspective truly does make us look at things so differently. Mary had such a difficult time and she did not complain. I can sure learn from that.
I really like the two bracelets as a reminder to look twice as hard to see good.
