A recent devotional from Streams in the Desert tells how Bald Eagles teach their babies to fly. If the chicks won’t listen to their persuasive calls–to take to the air–they literally push them out of the nest! Did I mention it’s often 100 feet to the ground?
I’m guessing here, but I figure few baby eagles go Splat. They learn to fly lickety split when they have to. Mom and dad know best.
Our unrealized potential truly is a personal gold mine–waiting to be discovered. Yet the stark reality is, only some of us fly.
But all of us fall.
I’ve left the “nest” before; a few times less willingly than others. What happened next was less flying and more about falling with style, like Woody told Buzz in the movie Toy Story.
I know, I know. I’m supposed to write positive thoughts from a Christian perspective, like my tag line says. But life isn’t always a bed of roses. So today, here’s to falling with style.
But those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.
Isaiah 40:31 (NIV)
