There IS no weather!

I know what it is to be in need, and I know what it is to have plenty. I have learned the secret of being content in any and every situation, whether well fed or hungry, whether living in plenty or in want. I can do everything through Him who gives me strength.

Philippians 4:12-13

“There IS no weather!” That’s what veteran runner/trainer Leon Curry said when I told him I get up at 4:15 in the morning to train during the summer–before it gets too hot.

I don’t think Leon meant he ignores the weather; he just doesn’t let it have too much say.

He. Simply. Runs.

In other words: the joy is in the journey. What an amazing attitude!

As an experienced runner, Leon has undoubtedly seen his share of challenging conditions. Through the years, he’s battled injury, dodged traffic, and been chased by snarling dogs. But even so, Leon chooses to focus less on the conditions and more on his mission–to keep running and enjoy it.

The Apostle Paul would have liked my running buddy; the two of them share a common trait–

Passion

Just like Leon, Paul didn’t focus too much on the surrounding conditions, he just kept sharing Jesus with others. The love of Christ compelled him (2 Corinthians 5:14-15).

Paul was willing to put up with EVERYTHING because he found something (the Gospel) that meant more to him than ANYTHING.

Daddy Knows

My wife and I enjoy the show “Holmes Makes It Right” on HGTV. If you haven’t seen it, the show stars Mike Holmes, a veteran contractor and home inspector, who helps homeowners fix major issues with their properties.
On many episodes, Mike runs into even greater difficulties than expected. Invariably, it turns out an unqualified person did electrical or plumbing work. The work was not done to code and has been a hazard, hidden inside walls or under floors for years. “Just one spark (or leak),” says a scowling Mike, “and the whole house could have been ruined.”

God has a reality show as well. It’s called, “Unless the Lord Builds the House.” On the show, God, the veteran creator and life inspector helps people fix major issues with their lives. Invariably, His clients find more personal problems than expected. The Lord, however, is not surprised. The work was not done to Biblical code and has been a hazard, hidden inside hearts and minds for years. “Just one prayer,” says a smiling creator, “and your whole house can be saved.”

If you then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give the Holy Spirit to those who ask Him!

Do You Have a Battle Buddy?

“Two are better than one, because they have a good return for their labor. Though one may be overpowered, two can defend themselves. A cord of three strands is not quickly broken.”

Ecclesiastes 4:4,12

Per Wikipedia, “a battle buddy is a partner assigned to a soldier in the United States Army. Each battle buddy is expected to assist his or her partner both in and out of combat.‎”

Spoiler Alert: compelling question below:

Do you have a Battle Buddy–someone who will stick with you through thick and thin? If not, please find one.

It’s not good for the man to be alone; I’ll make him a helper, a companion.

God (Genesis 2:18)

Or maybe today it’s your turn to BE a Battle Buddy. Who knows? You may need help tomorrow.

Ecclesiastes 4:12 contains a little formula I like to call 3makes2:

God + you + a battle buddy = Super Strong Bond

Nobody’s perfect, but a team CAN be.
