As a child, I remember a famous commercial for Prudential insurance. In the ad, a man stands out on his front porch after a tree just fell through his roof. His concerned neighbors come to investigate, but he calmly says, “It’s okay, I have a piece of the rock.” The intended message was that Prudential is strong and solid–able to handle any claim.
But an insurance company wasn’t the first to use this idea. King David wrote about it thousands of years before.
Hear my cry, O God; listen to my prayer. From the ends of the earth I call to you, I call as my heart grows faint; lead me to the rock that is higher than I.
Psalm 61:1-2
Here, we find not just a piece of the rock but peace IN the Rock–Jesus Christ. The psalmist cries out to God alone. He understands that other people cannot meet his greatest need, only the God who created him can do that.
We live in this world, but our true citizenship is in heaven (Phillipians 3:20). This can make any believer feel cut off from God, especially during difficult times. But God IS listening and He STILL delivers.
The righteous cry out and the Lord hears them; He delivers them from all their troubles.
Psalm 34:17
Not only does God hear the cry of the righteous, He rescues them Himself. He doesn’t set up a worthless customer service line (ever been there?) to create the illusion of helping people.
When it comes to his children, God takes care of everything (Romans 8:28).
Satisfaction Guaranteed.
When my spirit grows faint within me, it is you who know my way.
Psalm 142:3

Also, I got nominated for the Liebster Award (which I did not know was a thing), but it’s super fun and encouraging to take part in. I nominated you 🙂 but totally no pressure if you don’t want to do it. https://tanyaremkiv.com/2021/02/06/liebster-award-nomination/

Yes, it’s and it helps me tremendously. I use these types of mantras when I’m out and about, especially in big crowds. My pleasure David 🥰

Yes. It’s easier to be a rock for others when you have the ROCK of ages to stand on! Thank you, and God Bless.

I am eternally loved and supported by God. That would make a great mantra to say when I’m feeling a bit down. Thanks!

Thanks, David, great post.
Our island, Newfoundland, is literally a huge rock in the middle in the Atlantic.
Locals affectionally call this place ‘The Rock’.
Let us continue to grow in trust in Christ, our rock and our salvation. 🌷🤗

Definitely a “satisfaction guaranteed” experience when we pray and ask God for guidance. Eternally loved and supported. Beautiful 😍

How true! Maybe I should have said, “Eventual satisfaction guaranteed.”
In heaven nobody takes stuff back to the store.
I welcome your regular input. Thank you!

I love that you added “Satisfaction Guaranteed”. We just need to realize that God’s definition of satisfaction & ours might be vastly different. When I doubt….choose God.
