Visitors to Union Square in Manhattan, New York City are likely to encounter the street performer, Matthew Silver. Described by one YouTube contributor as, “A guy who runs around NYC in his underwear saying and doing radical things,” Matthew paints himself as a, “Cosmic trickster opening up the love portal to show us we are all one.”

While his antics are often punctuated with bizarre behavior and crude humor, meant to call attention to his message, Mr. Silver also speaks with amazing philosophical eloquence.
You’re already doing–you’re always doing–what’s in your heart; you can’t get away from your heart.
Matthew Silver
Another guy, who also said amazing things, agrees:
For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.
Jesus Christ – Matthew 6:21 (NIV)
Kind reader, thoughts such as these beg the question: what, or who do we treasure most in our lives?
So they hurried off and found Mary and Joseph, and the baby, who was lying in a manger. When they had seen him, they spread the word concerning what had been told them about this child, and all who heard it were amazed at what the shepherds said to them. But Mary treasured up all these things and pondered them in her heart.
Luke 2:16-19 (NIV)
Thank you for reading. 🙏❤️ Prayers and love.

Yes, the same cold front blew in here early Thursday morning. It is brr-chilly-cold for these parts.

Well what I treasure today is layers! It is blowing 45 miles per hour and blowing snow, so I treasure my warm house, and many layers of clothes before I go out to give water to the horses and chickens. Needless to say, I will not be like the man featured in your post, dancing around in my underwear!

Thank you for bringing up how major life changes can cause us to search our hearts—re-examine what’s important. This is so true, brother. God Bless you, and God speed for your wee blog 🏴

I like how you added that we should let God search our hearts. It’s a thought that would make a great sequel post to this one. Tag, you are it, Dawn! Thank you for stopping by! God Bless.

This is a good post to ponder: “What do we treasure in our heart?”
What we treasure may be a vague if not movable list of stuff until we encounter something that changes the value of things. Being suddenly homeless, surviving a life threatening event, the death of a loved one are three events that will certainly change the value of things. But the biggest change in value of things can only be found in knowing and staying close to Jesus. May God bless you and your family today brother 🙏

This is a great reminder to examine what is in our hearts and to ask God to reveal what is in our hearts. Because He knows us better than we know ourselves. Thanks David.

I like your thinking here, Matt! This could be a stand alone post, with Proverbs 3:5-6 as a reference.
As we come closer to the heart of God, our hearts will become more like His. Yes sir!
Thank you for your input. God Bless.
PS. I drank a coffee shop cup of fresh brewed Java today. There’s a whole lot of caffeine in there!

If we delight ourselves in the Lord, he will grant us the desires of our heart-BUT- if we truly delight ourselves in the Lord, the desires of our heart will change

The application you thought of makes sense. We tend to value what’s close to our hearts. My dad had fishing buddies who would wake up long before dawn to wet a line, but couldn’t get to work on time at 9 am Monday morning. Thank you for reading and sharing. God’s best to you!

This reminds me of the saying that we’ll make time for the things that are important to us. Ie: what we value or what’s in our heart. Maybe my mind went down that track because I’ve been feeling like I need to adjust some priorities. But in any case, your post spoke to me. Thank you, David!

How true. Our heart comes through, even when we don’t want it to.

Out of the abundance of the heart, the mouth speaks. Your words and actions reveal what’s really in your heart. Thanks.

So true David. I remember telling a parent group of teenagers “if you want to know the bent of the hearts of your teenager, listen to their music and get to know their friends”.

“The true self will assert itself, one way or another.” – So true, and also a bit frightening!!! And thank you for your kind words. I appreciate all the wisdom (and humor) you share on your blog.

Christmas is a good time to do some heart searching. This is what was on my mind when I revamped this old post. Thank you for reading and commenting, Bridget. God Bless!

I read a book recently that said, “The true self will assert itself, one way or another.”
Thank you for your comment. Saying something important enough for you to stop and think about is a compliment.☺️After all, you’ve seen, read, and heard a lot! God Bless!

This is a real challenge. How we spend our time, and what unexpectedly comes out of our mouth, reveal what is really going on in our heart, and what is important to us. You’ve given me something to think about today!

Our hearts desires have a way of coming through. No matter what. As you well know, this is why we should turn ourselves over to God.
Thank you for stopping by on this early morning, brother! I answered the email you send a couple of days ago.
God’s Best to you and Sweet T.

Great question to consider. Thanks for steering us to ponder what we are doing and why. It’s important to reflect on it. The heart wants what the heart wants—-or so I’ve heard it said.
