The fall our oldest son turned four, he enjoyed his first state fair. We walked the midway, road on a carousel, and shared a giant corn dog. The little guy’s eyes were wide with wonder!
At some point, we came upon a man holding dozens of brightly colored helium balloons. Families were buying them up like hot cakes for five dollars a piece. That was a lot of money for me, but I bought our little tyke his favorite color. We tied it to his younger brother’s stroller, so it wouldn’t float away, and kept walking down the midway.
Suddenly, our son pointed to the sky. “Look, dad!” It was one of the balloons, soaring high above the ferris wheel. “Uh oh,” I said, dismissively. “That kid lost their balloon. They should’ve been more careful.”
“Dad,” he said, peering into my soul like a preschool super-sage,“Somebody out there’s hurting bad.”
That brought me to one knee. Down on his level, looking him eye to eye, I said, “You’re right, son. Maybe their mom or dad will buy them another one.”
Humble yourselves, therefore, under God’s mighty hand, that he may lift you up in due time. Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you.
2 Peter 5:6-7 (NIV)
Kind reader, our Heavenly Father knows and cares that“Somebody out there’s hurting badly” (I’ll say it correctly, since I’m not four☺️). Today, and every day, may we share God’s boundless love and compassion with others. After all, most of us are also holding balloons we don’t want to lose.
Thank you for reading. 🙏❤️ prayers and love.
