The Bargain

It seemed like a great deal: two 1 liter bottles of premium water for $4. When I reached into the convenience store cooler they were ice cold, almost dripping with condensation. “Oh, these look good!” I thought.

But back in the car, one drink told the whole truth: looks can be deceiving. The “premium” water tasted like plastic, a sure sign the bottles had been left out in the hot sun. Thus the bargain.

Yuck!

Come, all you who are thirsty, come to the waters; and you who have no money, come, by and eat! Come buy wine and milk without money and without cost.

Isaiah 55:1 (NIV)

God offers free water, too—the premium variety—and with no yucky after taste.

Jesus answered her, “If you knew the gift of God and who it is that asks you for a drink, you would have asked and he would have given you living water.”

John 4:10 (NIV)

Kind reader, since God is generous, we can be generous. I close with a word from the man himself:

Freely you have received, freely give.

Jesus, Matthew 10:8 (NIV)

Thank you for reading. 🙏❤️ prayers and love.

Certainly looks can be deceiving when it comes to water David. We find this out when we have to drink water from anywhere else…nothing is quite as refreshingly beautiful as Scottish water. It is all about the source, and the same goes for our spiritual water too. God bless you today brother 🙏

Great illustration. How easily we’re duped. And how often the cheap and instant seems more appealing that the life-giving water the lord offers us.

Yes, the difference between the truth and a lie can be so subtle. I already shared one of the tainted bottles with my favorite mum. For my UK and Canadian readers, I mean a flowering plant, not my mother.🤗

I am grateful you stopped by my little blog this evening, Deb. God’s best to you and Todd.

There’s really no down side to God—no “bait and switch.”

Once we have drunk deep of the living water, plastic water, does not quench the thirst. There is no comparison between the two. May I not settle for anything other than the living water.

You’ve summed it up better than I did, Manu. And Psalm 34—“Oh taste and see”— is the perfect scripture for this! Thank you for sharing, Manu.

That is what this world offers doesn’t it? Seems good until later. Taste and see that the Lord is good.

Thank you for sharing a real life example, Betty. 18 years is a long time for any major league player—and a pitcher, too!
Your collaboration creates a post within a post. I love it!

I hope you and Dan have a blessed day.

It is hilarious, unplanned, and totally serendipitous. It just took me three tries to spell that word. 😊

Water is so refreshing, isn’t it? Well, as long as it doesn’t taste like plastic! And the Living Water from the Lord refreshes our spirit. May I digress a bit? Today is the last day for a Cardinal pitcher, Adam Wainwright. He’s played for our team for 18 years. He is a man of strong faith and is so dearly loved by this town. Like your blog, I find him so inspirational. And like the Living Water you mention, how he lives his life is so refreshing to my spirit. Especially in these times. He has freely received, and he freely gives. Adam is very much on my mind today, and your post just really tied it all together for me.

Yes. He, or she, is an unplanned “extra” in the photo. I suppose I will need to pay him/her now. No worries. How much can they eat??
