One day last week, my wife and I were waiting to turn left, against a steady stream of cross traffic. Rarely a patient driver, I shook my head, “This is ridiculous!” My more forbearing bride said, “The traffic light will change.”
Taking a deep breath, while nodding my head, I heard a gentle voice within—unmistakably the Holy Spirit: “Will you?” Given the context, I knew exactly what God was getting at, was I going to stay moldable in His capable hands, or not?
The devotional reading in Oswald Chamber’s My Utmost for His Highest, the next morning, clarified further: “Every God given vision will become real if we only have patience.” Chambers also points out how many of God’s children are in a rush to fulfill His vision for their lives. Yet the Lord never seems to be in much of a hurry.
Many of his choicest servants from our favorite Bible stories waited a long time for the proverbial light to change. Picture the prophet Habakkuk, standing on the wall—watching for God to deliver Jerusalem from its enemies.
For the vision is yet for an appointed time; but at the end it will speak, and it will not lie. Though it tarries, wait for it; because it will surely come, it will not tarry.
Habakkuk 2:3 (NIV)
Kind reader, it takes time for the Lord to shape us into His chosen vessels. In the interim, may we “lean forward” to strengthen our relationship with Him.
Let us know, let us pursue the knowledge of the Lord. His going forth is established as the morning; He will come to us like the rain, like the latter and former rain to the earth.
Hosea 6:3 (NKJV).
Thank you for reading. 🙏❤️ prayers and love.
