It was a peculiar sight, walking into the local post office this week. Two step ladders stood out on the grass—all by themselves, several feet from anything. I noticed someone left their jacket hanging on one of them. Sure enough, two guys were on the roof of the post office. But how did they get up there? And what were they doing with two ladders to nowhere, painting the sky?
This reminds me of my own misadventures, climbing the world’s ladder to nothing. After I lost my career and marriage, within the span of six months, I was disillusioned and distrustful of a “loving” God. How could He let this happen?
I got a job in sales and dedicated myself to making as much money, and having as much fun, as possible. But God wouldn’t let me go! His all-powerful love (which is no joke) kept pursuing me. One day, with tears rolling down my face, I fell to my knees, and prayed, “Heavenly Father, here I am, please take me back!” As soon as I said it, the Holy Spirit replied, “I never let you go.”
He lifted me out of the slimy pit, out of the mud and mire; he set my feet on a rock and gave me a firm place to stand. He put a new song in my mouth, a hymn of praise to our God. Many will see and fear, and put their trust in the Lord.
Psalm 40:2-3 (NIV)
Kind reader, there’s power in a personal testimony of God’s redeeming love. What’s your story? I was inspired to write this one, after seeing those ladders to nowhere, and reading my friend Dean’s personal story of God’s redemption: A Hotdog Changed the Course of My Life.
Thank you for reading. 🙏❤️ prayers and love.
