The Power of Worship: Letting Christ Be Glorified

Driving home the other day, listening to some of my favorite worship music, a tune from the 1990’s came on, Christ in Us Be Glorified. I was instantly transported back to a domed stadium filled with over 60,000 people, where I first heard this song live. The bridge is the best part:

🎶 ”In every song we sing, in the praises that we bring, let Christ be glorified. In the service that we give, and the lives that we live, let Christ be glorified.” 🎶

The chorus was supposed to come next, but it didn’t; right in the middle of the song, another worship chorus started. This one was also a familiar one, from the 1980’s:

🎶 “Change my heart, oh God. Make it ever true. Change my heart, oh God. May I be like You.” 🎶

The Holy Spirit’s message was clear: God is glorified when our hearts are changed, as we’re conformed to the image of his Son (Romans 8:29).

The truest worship of the Lord is found in repentance. It’s realizing who we are, who God is, and recognizing the difference.

The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit, a broken and contrite heart, O God, you will not despise.

Psalm 51:17 (NIV)

Kind reader, are we open to be broken? Are you and I willing to be made like Christ, no matter what it takes?

May our response be found in the words of another great worship chorus from the 1980s:

🎶 When Your Spirit speaks to me, with my whole heart I’ll agree, and my answer will be yes, Lord, yes.🎶

Thank you for reading. 🙏❤️ prayers and love.

You’re welcome, Peggy. Worship is more than pew jumping; carpet chewing prayer is also needed.

Loved this post, and the lyrics jogged memories. My husband has told me about Promise Keeper events he attended in Colo Springs and Dallas. He always was so moved by the masses of men singing. Surely it is a beautiful sound to the Creator of music. And a powerful experience for those worshipping. I find the car to be where a lot of my best worship happens. Or when I’m alone at my piano, during times of brokenness. Seeking healing. Thank you for sharing today.

Love the lyrics to the song. One of my favorites from the 90s was Shout to the Lord.

Your comment makes the point I wanted to share more clear. Thank you, Chris. Worship and repentance are not a “one and done “‘activity, but a lifestyle we maintain with God.

I loved Maranatha music back in the 90’s. I was a subscriber! They changed the landscape and helped develop a heart of worship in me.

I love what you said about repentance being the truest form of worship. When we’re in His presence, our lives are exposed. It’s then we realize who He is, who we are and our need to be more like Him.

I had several Isaiah moments in worship where I said, “Woe is me for I am undone. I am a man of unclean lips.” I’ve asked often for the coals from the altar to be applied to my life.

Thanks for reminding us repentance, like worship, is a lifelong commitment.

Oh, I do remember those Promise Keepers worship times. My experience was in Pittsburg, about the same year. Not only remembering but confronting the meaning of those lyrics is humbling. Thanks David. Have a blessed weekend.

Thank you, brother. I knew you and Rainer (The Devotional Guy) would both recognize these songs.
It was beyond coincidence that the first song stopped in the middle and went immediately into the second. God sent me a message and I didn’t want to ignore it.

I pray both you and Susan are well. God bless you today, my brother! 🙏🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

Thanks, brother. It was a Promise Keepers meeting in 1995 or 96 at the now demolished Hoosier Dome in Indianapolis, Indiana.

The thought that true worship is repentance came to me about that same time. My church was hosting revival meetings with a music evangelist, who did a great job, but something wasn’t quite right. The worship services felt like they were more about him, than God. Over lunch, at a Cracker Barrel, I said to him—under divine influence — “Worship is repentance.” He gave me a puzzled look that said he didn’t get it.

I certainly remember most of these lines you share with us today David. It is a valuable reminder that God honouring worship is our calling in this life. I am reminded of a beautiful song “My Tribute” by Andraé Crouch, which always touches my heart. Thank you for sharing this post with us today brother. May our Father God continue to guide and bless you and Nancy today 🙏 🇺🇸 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

60K people!?! Wow! Sounds like you were at a Promise Keepers meeting or at a Billy Graham crusade. Your statement about repentance being our truest act of worship really struck a chord with me. You’re swimming in deep waters now my friend. Keep up the good work. Thanks for this word of encouragement today. Blessings to you and Nancy.
