From Darkness to Light: Stories of Encouragement

I read a story the other day about a young girl who eloped from a shelter for troubled teens in the wee hours of the night. She was found in the woods a few hours later, not by the police, but by a female janitor from the local school.

When asked how she knew where to look for the girl, the lady said, “I ran away from home when I was fifteen. I knew she would head for the trees.” The thirty-ish year old woman then revealed that she had once stayed at the same shelter when a teenager.

Helped people help people.

Hurt may grow like unwanted weeds in a person’s life, but healing can also be cultivated. A well-tended garden takes work, but it’s not an impossibility.

Turn from evil and do good. Seek peace and pursue it.

Psalm 34:14 (NIV)

Whoever seeks good finds favor, but evil comes to one who searches for it.

Proverbs 11:27 (NIV)

Kind reader, it’s encouraging to be encouraging! Today, and every day, may we bring God’s light into the dark places between people.

Unless someone like you cares a whole awful lot, nothing is going to get better. It’s not.

Dr. Seuss

Thank you for reading. 🙏❤️ Prayers and love.

Title caught my attention as my memoir is titled quite similar.
I understand the difficulty of the runaway girl as well as the janitor…thankful these days I’m a lot more like the janitor, attentive and caring to those living a life I once lived.

That ‘s a great three point strategy for helping others: notice, care, act.

Thank you for sharing, Priscilla. God Bless!

May we all be like that janitor, noticing and caring and acting.

“Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our tribulation, that we may be able to comfort those who are in any trouble, with the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God.“

Thanks for sharing this scripture, brother Matt! It fits.

You’re right, not every wounded person becomes a healer. Knowing we are all in the same big life boat, is often enough to give us compassion for others. Add in the reality of redemption through Christ, and hope is more than wishful thinking.

Thank you. Yes, it touched me to learn that the janitor had both a heart for and knowledge of the girl that others apparently did not.

David, we all go through difficult times but not all become healers. Love how the healed janitor sought the hurt girl and cared. The healing began for the runaway, as she was found by someone who gave her hope. Beautiful and profound.

Thank you for your encouragement, brother. As we both know, one person can only help so much. That’s the challenge—how can we widen the circle ⭕️ and include more helpers? Plus, the power of hurt can be very strong, even overwhelming. We needs a whole lotta helping to balance the scales. ⚖️

Healing can be cultivated… that’s profound, brother David. I like this post, albeit I find I am challenged by it. Thanks for writing it and posting it. It’s got wisdom woven inside its backbone.
