Yesterday, at the urgent care clinic, a boy who looked to be 10-12 years old was in the waiting room sitting with his mother. I noticed he was holding a little puppy. It wasn’t a stuffed animal, but a real live miniature dog–licking his face!
When it came time for the boy to go back to the exam room, he wanted to take his puppy along, but the nurse explained that this was against the rules. Mom said, “No problem, I’ll wait out here.” But the nurse said, “Because your son is a minor, you must accompany him to the back.”
The mom hesitated, and then started to walk out the door, presumably to put the young pup in the car. I’d watched the scene unfold from the beginning, and this was no good. “I like dogs,” I offered, “And my wife will be here soon. We can puppy sit for you.”
Surprisingly, the mom agreed. She handed me the wee ball of fur, that appeared to be about six weeks old and followed the nurse with her son.
The cute little guy looked like a baby cattle dog and was certainly frisky and feisty enough to be one. He nibbled on my fingers for a few minutes and turned circles in my lap. And then, just like puppies do, fell fast asleep, with his little head resting on my arm.
When my wife arrived, she was surprised to see me holding a puppy. I told her, “We’re dog sitting for another patient,” and that I would need to trade off with her when the nurse called for me. She agreed, being as big a dog lover as me.
I got called back a few minutes later and handed “Rufus”–he needed a temporary name–to Nancy. She texted about 20 minutes later to say that the pup had been picked up by a very thankful boy and his mom who were finished at the clinic.
For if you remain silent at his time, relief and deliverance for the Jews will arise from another place, but you and your father’s family will perish. And who knows but that you have come to your royal position for such a time as this?
Mordecai to Queen Esther – Esther 4:14 (NIV)
Kind reader, the stakes weren’t as high as Esther’s, but it sure felt like Nancy and I were in the right place at the right time! I thought I was only at the urgent care clinic for my sore knee, but God had additional plans. Little Rufus needed some TLC, and the Lord let us provide it! “God wink” moments like these are the best!
Thank you for reading. 🙏❤️ Prayers and love.
