A favorite *story of mine that pairs well with the first Sunday of Advent is about a woman who leaves anonymous notes of encouragement throughout her city.
Elizabeth, a recovering drug addict, wants to help others by spreading hope, something she once desperately searched for herself. So, she writes uplifting notes and tucks them under car windshield wipers or tacks them on poles in public parks.
Every message features the same complimentary closing:
“Much love. Hope sent.”
And hope does not disappoint us, because God has poured out his love into our hearts by the Holy Spirit, whom he has given us.
Romans 5:5 (NIV)
Come to think of it, there isn’t one real drawback, or a single unpleasant side effect of being a participant in, or a purveyor of God’s hope.
Kind reader, heaven’s optimism isn’t passive wishful thinking, but a radical, persistent commitment to wait and work for the good we believe is coming.
Advent Benediction
May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.
Romans 15:13 (NIV)
Thank you for reading. ❤️🙏 Prayers and love.
