Broken & Available

This past week I saw a billboard by a busy highway that the strong Oklahoma winds have almost toppled. A wooden post on one end snapped, leaving the sign almost folded in half. As my wife and I drove by, I noticed part of the word “Available” on the broken portion–flapping in the breeze. “Oops,” I joked. “I think they mean “Unavailable.”

It didn’t take long to find a spiritual analogy. As a Jesus follower, I’m supposed to be a roadside advertisement for the heaven bound life. There should always be something Christ worthy and Christ like on the billboard of my life–like salt and light to the world (Matthew 5:13-16). And if not, at the very least, it should say “Available” to God. Sadly, there have been times when my visible Christian satisfied customer testimonial was folded in half and flapping in the breeze.

Kind reader, can you relate? Have you experienced brokenness to the point that you felt unavailable to God? I have. But the Lord’s amazing love, mercy, and grace brought me back from the brink. Hallelujah! God doesn’t destroy His children, He reemploys them.🤗

The Lord will guide you always; he will satisfy your needs in a sun-scorched land and will strengthen your frame. You will be like a well-watered garden, like a spring whose waters never fail. — Isaiah 58:11

Thank you for reading. 🙏❤️ prayers and love.

As I wrote this, I thought of how you might relate. God’s favor finds us when we turn our lives completely over to Him! That you for stopping by. God Bless!

Great analogy, Brother David. In our brokenness, God can still use us, as we yield to him. What a testament to God’s compassion, mercy, and love.

How many times have I wanted to say I’m available to God but my life says I’m not really? Blessedly, repentance provides the way to realign my will to God’s.

Your word picture is best! Broken crayons 🖍️ and cookies 🍪: they still serve their purpose. Just don’t switch them up—eat the crayon and write with the cookie. This is an idea for a great post. Tag! You’re it, brother. 🤗

What a great analogy, David! This morning I was reading about being a “legacy” in our actions and the way we represent Christ! Oh how I fail, brother! God bless you! May we all stay “available” and ready!

You have a great memory, Rainer! Yes, it was two years ago. Man, how time flies! I’m not surprised this post resonated with you. We should start a “Broken Cookie” club. Our slogan could be, “Broken Cookies Taste the Same.” I’m sure I stole that from somewhere, but it fits here. Have a blessed day, my brother!

Amen, David. Amen 🙏. Broken and available describes most of us, I think. At least those who write blogs about the grace and mercy of God. I imagine we‘ve experienced God doing amazing things in our messy lives. Blessings to you and Nancy today. If memory serves, we met in person around this day two years ago.

Yes, I deliberately didn’t quote them so that you had to look them up!😊 They are great verses that have a suitable quote by C.H.Spurgeon: ” our faith is not to be measured by the absence of trials, but by the presence of confidence in God in the midst of them.”

Thank you, brother Alan! I greatly appreciate how you share scripture that goes along with a post. Here are the two you referenced:

For a righteous man may fall seven times
    And rise again,
But the wicked shall fall by calamity. Proverbs 24:16

Many are the afflictions of the righteous,
But the LORD delivers him out of them all. Psalm 34:19

Thank you again, Alan. You remain one of my biggest supporters and readers. Blessings to you and Susan.

This is a well timed post David! This morning I was blessed by two linked verses; proverbs24:16 & psalm34:19 – these certainly apply to such times as you mention! May our Father God continue to guide and bless us in our storms brother 🙏 🇺🇸🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿
