The student’s hoodie had an inspirational message: “Never Give Up. Keep the Enthusiasm.” With the young man’s permission I took a picture, but one letter of the message was missing.

This may sound peculiar, but I’ve learned to interpret such coincidences as messages from God. “Never Give U.” What does it mean?
A little Bible digging brought me to the second chapter of John. The story starts with Jesus turning water to wine (his first miracle), which brought him positive attention. Next, He creates a ruckus in the temple courts, turning over the money changer’s tables and chasing folks out with a homemade whip. This brings him negative attention, and a challenge to his authority from his fellow Jews.
In Cana, Christ was cheered, and in Jerusalem He was booed. Yet the miraculous power of God flowed through Him unchanged.
Now while he was in Jerusalem at the Passover Feast, many people saw the miraculous signs he was doing and believed in his name. But Jesus would not entrust himself to them, for he knew all men. He did not need man’s testimony about man, for he knew what was in men.
John 2:23-25 (NIV)
The story is told of the legendary American baseball player, Babe Ruth, that he always tipped his ball cap to the crowd–whether he hit a home run or struck out. When the fans cheered for him, or when they booed, his reaction was the same.
Jesus, and the Babe were both on to something. They cared what others thought, but not that much. Each of them had a job to do, regardless if the days were good or bad. And they didn’t tie their personal worth to the fickle opinions of others.
Kind reader, keep the enthusiasm and never give u. Translation: God’s love for us is both infinite and unconditional. So don’t lose yourself in the judgment or expectations of others–whether positive or negative. When you’re His child, it’s enough.
PS. Do you need to be reconciled to God? Jesus Christ is the way! Confess your inability to save your own soul, and fully trust Him today. This is how to become friends with God and spend forever with Him in heaven.
For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.
John 3:16 (NIV)
