More Breakfast Down the Hall

I posted yesterday in Breakfast Down the Hall about how students at my elementary school often drop breakfast items on their way to class. It’s those flimsy cardboard boats everything comes in!

The conclusion was, the Christian life feels like this sometimes; it’s a long walk, and I’m carrying a bunch of stuff, and this flimsy cardboard boat won’t quite hold my “breakfast.”

Gravity gets a say, and so does God. He holds all things together (Col 1:17)—including our lives–through Christ. Jesus knows where the dropping points are and can help us along the way (Heb 2:18).

But what about those fallen breakfast items? Are they replaced?

It’s always an interesting day when we have breakfast pizza—a rather top-heavy entrée. You can literally hear them fall, “Splat!” to the floor. Topping side down, of course. Delicious rectangles of sausage and melted cheese litter the length of the hallway.

More than once, I’ve encountered a five-year-old in distress, “I dropped my pizzaaah!”

“It’s Ok,” I say. “Let’s go back to the cafeteria and tell them what happened. They’ll give you another one.”

“Really??” implores the worried child.  “Yes, really. They have lots and lots.”

Kind reader, have you ever gone back to the “cafeteria” with Jesus alongside and asked God for another entree?  Even if He’s out of “breakfast pizza,” you get something.  Nobody goes hungry in God’s family.

Don’t just take it from me, here’s King David:

I was young and now I am old, yet I have never seen the righteous forsaken or their children begging bread. They are always generous and lend freely; their children will be a blessing.

Psalm 37:25 (NIV)

Will you join me today in a heavenly assignment?  Let’s call it “Mission Possible.”  Yours, and my, privilege (should we choose to accept it) is to replace someone’s missing “entrée.” It could be food, or something else. Let’s do this!

And if anyone gives even a cup of cold water to one of these little ones who is my disciple, truly I tell you, that person will certainly not lose their reward.

Jesus – Matthew 10:42 (NIV)

Thank you for reading. 🙏❤️ prayers and love.

You’re so right, Nancy! The little guys really perk up when they realize something isn’t the end of the world. After all, their world is much smaller than ours, with fewer life experiences. It’s exactly the way God works with us. Thank you for reading and commenting.

That five-year-old no doubt felt deliciously happy to realize he could have another piece of pizza! And it no doubt made you happy to turn his disappointment into smiles. ‘Love the way God works that out–always making sure the giver gets a blessing as well as the receiver (Acts 20:35)!

I taught in an elementary school for thirteen years and will always remember how they came into the building with no energy out of hunger and then to see them perk up because they had breakfast.
Reminds me of how I perk up after I have had coffee time with God in the morning.

Thanks, Bridget. Your comment goes along with Malcolm’s. If we strengthen and lengthen our breakfast boats, it allows us to be the Lord’s helpers to others—with their “breakfast.”

How true, Betty. We don’t always see the wake, good or not so good, we leave behind us. The best strategy is to always be kinder than necessary. After all, we may need someone to return the favor.

I don’t care to be tested that way either. Stacey. Yet I’ve seen God provide for me, at times when I couldn’t provide for myself. Thank you for stopping by. God Bless!

Sounds like a wonderful idea, David. I don’t think we ever truly know the impact of our kindness to others.

I have said, but hope it’s never tested, that I believe God will send ravens to feed me if necessary. But being a mom, I really hope God doesn’t test my faith on that.
