Fellow blogger, Deb Farris, had me nodding my head recently with her post, The Little Way Through: One Writer’s Morning.
She’d gone out to the front porch swing, accompanied by her loyal Goldendoodle, to reflect and write. But her anticipated time of deep work was repeatedly interrupted by lawn mowers and leaf blowers and workers sawing on concrete next door.
Determined to persevere, Deb pressed on, despite sneezing twice—from the cement dust. Finally, enough was enough; she retreated inside to eat pancakes with her husband.
Naturally, this post was about developing patience. How do we react when things don’t go as planned? Deb pointed toward the answer with a quote that had me nodding again:
There’s a little way through these small days of mine.
St. Therese of Lisieux, from Story of a Soul.
Now that’s deep! Could the “little way,” be the unwavering path of childlike faith? Deb thinks so, and I agree. It’s rare to meet a cynical preschooler. My mind also went to the words of Christ:
Enter by the narrow gate. For the gate is wide and the way is easy that leads to destruction, and those who enter by it are many. For the gate is narrow and the way is hard that leads to life, and those who find it are few.
Matthew 7:13-14 (NIV)
Kind reader, it takes patience and persistence to walk God’s thin trail, but it’s the only one that leads to heaven.
He knows the way I take; when he has tested me, I will come forth as gold.
Job 23:10 (NIV)
Thank you for reading. 🙏❤️ Prayers and love. And thank you, Deb for the inspiration!
