Three folded note cards with purple writing held together by matching painterβs tape. A young student, at morning drop-off, handed them to me when she got out of the car.
This happens often at elementary schools; children share their artistic creations with others. And itβs always an honor to be chosen for such a gift.
Once, God even used something like this to send me a message when I really needed it.
I carefully put the treasured dispatch into my pocket, planning to open and read it later. It ended up in the front zipper pocket of my lunch box, where it stayed for two whole days. Is this how important memoranda are lost to antiquity?
Thankfully, when I sat down to eat my lunch, I remembered it was there. Cautiously peeling back the purple tape, I opened the little oneβs heartfelt note.

Itβs a bunch of illegible scribbles, nine squares (with more squiggles inside them), and a single somewhat decodable word: βfamldok.β Finally, thereβs an equally mysterious symbol, perhaps a coiled serpent, drawn in pencil.
What does it mean?!
If only Iβd studied to become an Egyptologist.πΌπ«ππ
But then it hit me: I donβt need to translate this cryptic memo, the young girl who wrote it attends my school! True, there are six-hundred children here under the age of six, but surely I can find her again and ask what it means.
And hope does not disappoint us, because God has poured out his love into our hearts by the Holy Spirit whom he has given us.
Romans 5:5 (NIV)
Kind reader, when it comes to making sense of lifeβs confusing messages, you and I are not without resources. We have a loving creator (God) who is able and willing to help us translate and interpret!
Thank for reading. πβ€οΈ prayers and love.
