A small Bluetooth speaker sits on the back of the paper shredder in my school’s main office. One of our secretaries enjoys streaming country and western music through it, while she works nearby.
The other day, when I came to destroy some confidential documents, it struck me how shredding paper to the tune of a heart-rending country song is fitting. I quickly improvised my own lyrics and melody on the spot:
🎶 I lost my trailer and I’m livin’ in my truck. 🎶🤠
Everyone laughed—even the country music fans.
I mused about how done-somebody-wrong songs are always in style. It’s a picture of how our fallen world sometimes works: I trusted you, and you betrayed me.
Thank heaven, we don’t get the same treatment from God. He reached out to us (first) with a done-somebody-right song.
This is love: not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins.
1 John 4:10 (NIV)
Now, there’s a tune to be happy about! God cares deeply for us and acts positively on our behalf, no matter what.
What, then, shall we say in response to this? If God is for us, who can be against us?
Romans 8:31 (NIV)
Kind reader, whatever we face, God’s affection is stronger still. Love and loss are like two bookends of life, but the Lord is a great librarian. He knows how to organize the shelves. Today, and every day may we trust in His eternal love.
Thank you for reading. 🙏❤️ prayers and love.
