Is it Worth it?

It’s a small crocheted stuffed animal I found at the local drug store. Was it a dog, or a bear?

Twenty-five dollars?!

I asked the pharmacist why it cost so much. He didn’t know.

Nevertheless, I’d fallen in love with the little guy and was taking him home.

My significant other thought I was nuts to pay so much—for a child’s toy—so I turned to Google to disprove her.

I learned my wee friend is a mini AmiGurumi, which is the Japanese word for knitting/crocheting stuffed toys. They are often palm-sized and worked in spirals to avoid visible seams.

Mine was handcrafted in the U.S.A. and is a unique, boutique level creation. I know this because the company website says so.

See, I told you. This puppy, or whatever it is, was worth every penny!

My wife remains unconvinced.

For the moment all discipline seems painful rather than pleasant, but later it yields the peaceful fruit of righteousness to those who have been trained by it.

Hebrews 12:11 (NKJV)

There are days when I wonder if my career is worth the emotional toll, because I often deplete precious time and energy on things that don’t seem like a good bargain.

It feels like they’re way overpriced.

But wait a minute: maybe it’s too soon to gauge the value of such life experiences. The proverbial ink isn’t even dry, and I’m already asking artificial intelligence for answers.

Is it worth it? Maybe. Maybe not. It’s a little early to say, cupcake.🧁(that’s me talking to myself.)😊

Thank you for reading. 🙏❤️ prayers and love.

Son though He was, He (Christ) learned obedience from what He suffered.

Alicia, yours is the wisest and most insightful comment yet! 🤗
I read it to my wife, and she’s still laughing at my “bargain”— in fun, of course.
Thank you for following, reading, and commenting.
    God Bless!

Also this post rendered a lot of great comments, I enjoyed reading through them! Those are worth far more than the priced paid!

I’m glad you bought it! I think tokens such as this little guy bring great value when we attach or ponder a life lesson to them rather than a price tag!!

One of my other blogger friends identified it as a bear. So, I named it Lil Bear.
It’s true, even adults put different values on different things. I know guys who have tens of thousands of dollars worth of guns, who scoff when I walk in with a $3 coffee from Starbucks.
    It’s about what we prioritize.
I realize my little crocheted friend may not be a good buy, but I wanted him—just like my buddies want one more shiny bang-bang.
Thank you for stopping by. I appreciate your well wishes for working with children. It’s always an adventure, but a worthy one. God Bless!

We are all looking at it from a very adult perspective. In the Lord’s eyes, we need to become like children … and they would say, Only $25? That is worth way more than that! Enjoy the puppy/bear and the children who surround you daily. You are a good influence in their lives. 😊

Thank you, Grandma. When I bought it, I thought it was a dog 🐶 , but it does look more like a bear. 🐻
Your wisdom is always appreciated. If we walk as Jesus did, the results will be satisfactory. If not, no amount of money, possessions, or fame will matter.

It’s got to be a bear. Whatever the results of our life, if we try to live as Jesus would have us to live, it will be worth it all – to hear him say “well done.”

Brother Matt, when I showed her my evidence. she laughed harder than she has laughed (with or at?) me for years. She warned me against telling the world about my frivolous purchase. No worries, I put it on my little blog. Only a few people read it, and most are either my blood relatives or are bribed to do so. My secret is safe, unless one of you is a social media influencer and wants to help me put a dent in the universe.

It is worth it if it is worth it for you, but of course, you also have your wife’s opinion to contend with 🙂
But your thorough research seems to prove it is worth it.

I am glad Jesus felt we were worth it to come to be our Savior

Nice segue and great question. Is it worth it? The kicker is we won’t see most of the price tags till Heaven so we will just have to trust what Jesus said was worth the most. Your cuddly bear thingy might make a great gift for someone in the family who knows what they are and why they do cost so much. Otherwise, I am on Nancy’s side!

You really should come visit us in Yuma, David, and now’s the perfect time to do it.

There’s a rodeo next month and then a regionally famous classic car show in March and, if that’s not enough excitement for you, an air show at the Marine base also in March. Take your pick. The weather’s great, and I’ll spring for some great Mexican food to go with that root beer.

Bring your bride and your little squishy dog or whatever toy friend, and your bride and mine can compare notes. We’ll all have a great time of it if you do!

I really need to make the trek to Yuma and take you up on your offer to buy me a root beer, Majik. Both your wit and wisdom are appreciated. God Bless!
Yes, he is soft and squishy, like a stress ball. And he/she still needs a name.

I think the dog or whatever is certainly cute, probably soft and squishy too to hold in your hand. Right? I also think that your wife is correct and that you likely are “nuts” to pay so much for a child’s toy. But hey, it’s your hard-earned money, and you maybe have some deep-seated need to hold that cute dog or whatever in the palm of your hand. That’s the real story here, I think . . . but maybe that corner of your psyche is best left unexplored.

Thanks, brother! WP keeps sending your comments to my SPAM folder. They are SO wrong!
We are both in public service, which means our dealings with others are a mixed bag. There’s definitely more good than bad, but the negative interactions tend to linger with me longer. 🙏God, help us both. ❤️

You are absolutely correct, brother. I’m sure there’s something similar on Amazon for under £10. It was a difficult day at work, and I picked this little guy up—as a spiritual marker—of how I sometimes overspend (emotionally) with folk who no longer value my opinion or want my help. It’s a hard lesson for a Barnabas type, like me.
God’s best to you, Susan, and the Kearns clan. 🙏🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿🇺🇸

Your crocheted critter is a lovely wee thingy, but I don’t think I would have spent £20 on it…but then Fifers are renowned for being tight with their money. 😊 Having said that, worth is something that is relative to who is looking, and from what angle. It made me think of those in the world that think that faith is overvalued, but they don’t see what and Who we see in our precious Lord. God bless you today David and Nancy 🙏🇺🇸🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

Man—you’ve been eavesdropping on my inner conversations with myself? You rocketed me back to my childhood and a favorite teddy bear I clung to (I think my aunt discarded one day). I love the backstory of the ancient Japanese handiwork. I’ve been reading a couple of books on Asian spiritual practices. Fascinating stuff. There’s a lot to love in this post. Thanks for enriching our lives with your words. Peace.

    Thank you, Nicola.
There was a time when I couldn’t afford a $2.50 toy for my son. Now, I occasionally spend ten times as much on a comfort item. Cue eye roll from my Nancy. 🙄
