Confessions of a “Chicken Little” Christian

I’ve been enjoying a Christian meditation and Bible reading app I recently discovered. It’s called Abide, and it helps keep you motivated by gamifying your discipleship progress. I know, this almost sounds sacreligious, but it really helps make my devotional time even more of a habit. I’m already hooked!

I’ve prayed and meditated along with the app for 11 days straight, and have a growing green plant on my screen to prove it. I’ve also earned achievement badges: the Early Bird (mornings), the Night Owl (evenings), and the Peace Practitioner (meditating 15 minutes or longer).

It’s been a challenging past two weeks at work, and the extra time I’ve spent seeking the Lord–thanks to Abide –has been much needed. Frankly, my faith hasn’t faltered, but I’ve been a little too fretful and whiney with the Lord.

Well, I guess the Holy Spirit had seen and heard enough, because, when I awoke one morning last week–thinking about what new badge I could earn on my favorite app–the Lord said, “The Chicken Little Award.” No joke, just like that, it popped into my mind.

Somehow, I knew this wasn’t a compliment from Christ. And a quick Google search for a summary of the Chicken Little story proved it. As you may recall, Chicken Little was so easily panicked that when an acorn fell on his head he thought the sky was falling.

Now that He had my full attention, the Lord led me to read back through my daily devotional journal. The entry from February 16th reads: “God’s love, grace, mercy, and provision for you have always been enough. Why do you think they won’t be now?”

I will be glad and rejoice in thy mercy; for thou hast considered my trouble; thou hast known my soul in adversities;
Psalm 31:7 (KJV)

Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you.
1 Peter 5:7 (KJV)

Kind reader, can you relate to my “Chicken Little” Christian experience? Like me, have you ever thought the spiritual sky was falling, but God reminded you that it wasn’t? It’s a good thing God is so loving and kind. And I appreciate His sense of humor–even when it stings.

Thank you for reading. 🙏❤️ prayers and love.

How quickly can we forget the promises God already spoke to us in such a way we know it to be true…only to seemingly forget (or simply question) what we knew.

Adam and Eve did it in the garden, which gives me hope that you and I are not the only ones, my friend.

People are “pooping” wherever they feel like with no concern of who might step in it, just like a chicken!

Amen, brother! I heard someone say this morning, “Let your “What ifs?” become “Even Ifs.” Easter blessings to you, as well.

Amen, Sister Super-C! We can crow in the face of fear because this whole chicken coop of a world belongs to its creator God. Blessings, and a Happy Easter to you!

Those “the sky is falling” moments as we worry while all along God says- “I’ve got this. I’ve got you.” I have had my share of those.
    Have a blessed Easter brother

I too have the Chicken Little award, and my chickens at the ranch tell me I don’t need it. I should get up, stand strong, strut around, and crow like a rooster in the face of fear!

David, I would definitely qualify for the “Chicken Little” award. I don’t consider myself a worrier; however, I do worry about my kids and my husband. And the future. The biblical quotes in this post provide an elixir. Happy Easter!

From our perspective, things can seem apocalyptic. Thankfully, God has all of creation in His hands and sees the BIG picture. You’re spot on, David. God’s provided everything we needed so far, why would He stop now? His love for us endures forever!

Sorry that you’ve had a rough week at the office. Everyone probably has a bad case of Spring Fever—like we do here —the weather has been fantastic here in Big D.

    Praying things improve.

Much love to you and Nancy and your family.

Thank you, brother! I am much encouraged, and continue to be so, by your kind encouragement. There is a hint of the Easter story in my post, but I chose not to emphasize it. The earliest believers in Christ must have thought the “sky was falling”—after His death, but His resurrection revealed God’s eternal perspective.
    Christ is alive!

I couldn’t help but smile as I read your post David, I recognised myself in it – I can be a bit of a whinger, and often the Lord gives me a wee shake. You are right about God having a sense of humour, I see it often in how He chastises me…as they say in Fife “get a grip Alan!” I really do appreciate your friendship and regular encouragement, in your excellent posts, prayers and comments. May our Heavenly Father continue to guide and bless you (and Nancy) in your daily walk with Him. 🙏🇺🇸🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿
