I’ve been enjoying a Christian meditation and Bible reading app I recently discovered. It’s called Abide, and it helps keep you motivated by gamifying your discipleship progress. I know, this almost sounds sacreligious, but it really helps make my devotional time even more of a habit. I’m already hooked!
I’ve prayed and meditated along with the app for 11 days straight, and have a growing green plant on my screen to prove it. I’ve also earned achievement badges: the Early Bird (mornings), the Night Owl (evenings), and the Peace Practitioner (meditating 15 minutes or longer).
It’s been a challenging past two weeks at work, and the extra time I’ve spent seeking the Lord–thanks to Abide –has been much needed. Frankly, my faith hasn’t faltered, but I’ve been a little too fretful and whiney with the Lord.
Well, I guess the Holy Spirit had seen and heard enough, because, when I awoke one morning last week–thinking about what new badge I could earn on my favorite app–the Lord said, “The Chicken Little Award.” No joke, just like that, it popped into my mind.
Somehow, I knew this wasn’t a compliment from Christ. And a quick Google search for a summary of the Chicken Little story proved it. As you may recall, Chicken Little was so easily panicked that when an acorn fell on his head he thought the sky was falling.
Now that He had my full attention, the Lord led me to read back through my daily devotional journal. The entry from February 16th reads: “God’s love, grace, mercy, and provision for you have always been enough. Why do you think they won’t be now?”
I will be glad and rejoice in thy mercy; for thou hast considered my trouble; thou hast known my soul in adversities;
Psalm 31:7 (KJV)
Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you.
1 Peter 5:7 (KJV)
Kind reader, can you relate to my “Chicken Little” Christian experience? Like me, have you ever thought the spiritual sky was falling, but God reminded you that it wasn’t? It’s a good thing God is so loving and kind. And I appreciate His sense of humor–even when it stings.
Thank you for reading. 🙏❤️ prayers and love.
