There was this guy I knew in college, I’ll call him Fred, who was a heavy sleeper. He could fall asleep, and stay asleep, almost anywhere. One Sunday evening, while his roommates played a raucous game of cards, Fred crawled up in his bunk bed and crashed. At some point during the night, the others decided to prank their snoozing friend.
“Fred, wake up! You overslept, it’s almost time for your 8:30 English Lit. class,” said one of the lads, while the others shook the bed. As the story goes (I wasn’t there) Fred got up, dressed, combed his hair, and went downstairs. He walked outside–into the night–only to realize he’d been duped. It was two o’clock in the morning.
“Right idea, wrong time.” It’s what a waiter at a local restaurant said to me the other day. We were talking about when a group of men comes for a monthly prayer breakfast. He thought it was Sunday, but I corrected him. It’s the second Saturday of every month.
Both the waiter and Fred had the right idea: serve some men at a breakfast, don’t be late to English Lit., but their timing was off.
There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under heaven.
Ecclesiastes 3:1 (NIV)
He (God) has made everything beautiful in its time.
Ecclesiastes 3:11 (NIV)
Kind reader, perhaps you and I know what God wants to do. We have the right idea; but what about the timing?
Some folks in the Bible waited quite a while before God’s promise to them proved true. Yet, their faith did not waver. Today, and every day, may it be the same with you and me.
Thank you for reading. 🙏❤️prayers and love.
