Are You Open for Business in Your Life?

Arise, Shine, for your light has come, and the glory of the Lord rises upon you.

Isaiah 60:1 (NIV)

Early one morning, as the regulars arrived at a popular breakfast eatery, they were greeted by a sign hanging in the window: “Sorry, closed. Inventory day.”

It’s been about five years now, and the Rise and Shine Grill hasn’t reopened. Someone keeps up the place, cutting the grass out front and trimming the hedges, but inside the building sets dark, with that same sign still in the window.

Inventory day is taking a long time. I wonder what happened? Maybe the owner died or moved away, but why hasn’t someone sold the restaurant and reopened its doors?

At times, I’m tempted to lock the doors to my life and hang a sign around my neck:  “Sorry, closed. Inventory day.”

Frankly, it feels like it may take longer. Twenty-four hours could turn into weeks and then months, even years.

Yes, Socrates was right, “The unexamined life is not worth living,” but it’s also accurate that the unlived life is not worth examining. There’s a happy medium in there somewhere.

You cannot find peace by avoiding life.

Virgina Woolf

Kind reader, every Christ follower has a God appointed purpose. Are you and I open for His business?

For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works which he prepared in advance for us to do.

Ephesians 2:10 (NIV)

Thank you for reading. 🙏❤️ Prayers and love.

Business opportunities come up with positive rhythms; that is walking by faith and not sight

My prayer is the same, Priscilla. I often isolate myself when feeling unwelcome emotions, but the challenge is to lean into whatever it is and keep sharing God’s love. Thank you for being a faithful reader and commenter. God Bless!

I hope I have ears, eyes, mind, and heart open to God’s business. I tend to close up when I get sad or angry, but that’s when I need to be open to God even more!

Agreed. Me too, brother Matt. I can’t seem handle a short break from school very well.

It is tempting at times to put a “closed sign” n the door of my life but I would get bored 🙂

We may be keeping the place open but remember to keep the fruit cup on the menu with, lots of luscious love, juicy joy, perfectly ripe peace, and surprisingly sweet self-discipline. These are always in season, and our supplier never runs out of stock!

Thanks for stopping by, brother Chris. There was a restaurant in a town near by that put “permanently closed” on the sign out front. Every time I drove by I thought, “How do you know that?” God has His ways to keep our lives open, both to Him and others.
    Blessings!

I had to chuckle when I read your post. Last week I saw a sign outside a restaurant, “Closed, Not Reopening.” Maybe God’s giving me a sign? Yes, there are days I feel like staying closed, but God tells me otherwise. Thanks for the encouraging post. Blessings.

I didn’t think of that angle, but you’re right, Barb. Trust and obedience go hand and hand with keeping the doors of our life open for God’s use. 🙏 His richest blessings to you and yours.

Some days I want to close for business too. But I appreciate your reminder that we have work to do, for God’s Kingdom. And He will help us keep our business going. Great post, David.

Thank you for sharing this reminder to always be open for God’s business each day. If we are faithful to be open and pray for Godly appointments He will surely use us, and thus bless us in it. God bless you and Nancy richly today 🙏 🇺🇸🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿
