Arise, Shine, for your light has come, and the glory of the Lord rises upon you.
Isaiah 60:1 (NIV)
Early one morning, as the regulars arrived at a popular breakfast eatery, they were greeted by a sign hanging in the window: “Sorry, closed. Inventory day.”
It’s been about five years now, and the Rise and Shine Grill hasn’t reopened. Someone keeps up the place, cutting the grass out front and trimming the hedges, but inside the building sets dark, with that same sign still in the window.
Inventory day is taking a long time. I wonder what happened? Maybe the owner died or moved away, but why hasn’t someone sold the restaurant and reopened its doors?
At times, I’m tempted to lock the doors to my life and hang a sign around my neck: “Sorry, closed. Inventory day.”
Frankly, it feels like it may take longer. Twenty-four hours could turn into weeks and then months, even years.
Yes, Socrates was right, “The unexamined life is not worth living,” but it’s also accurate that the unlived life is not worth examining. There’s a happy medium in there somewhere.
You cannot find peace by avoiding life.

Kind reader, every Christ follower has a God appointed purpose. Are you and I open for His business?
For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works which he prepared in advance for us to do.
Ephesians 2:10 (NIV)
