Embracing Role Models Across Ages

As I walked off the elevator at the elementary school where I work, I crossed paths with some fourth graders. One of them was singing the chorus of a hit song from the early 1980’s by Elton John:

“🎶I’m still standing better than I ever did.🎶”

I snapped my fingers, as I walked to the beat, and sang back the next line:

“🎶Looking like a true survivor. Feeling like a little kid.🎶”

The students all froze in their tracks, with eyes wide and mouths gaping.

“How do you know that song, Mr. Duncan!?” asked the boy who’d been singing. (He knew it from the 2016 movie, Sing!)

“Guys, it first came out when I was fifteen years old.” Cue more eyes wide and mouths gaping. The students then continued down the hall, smiling.

One generation shall praise Your works to another and shall declare Your mighty acts.

Psalm 145:4 (NKJV)

Kind reader, Coach John Wooden was right: “Young people need role models, not critics.” How will you I commend God’s mighty works to those who follow?

Thank you for reading. 🙏❤️Prayers and love.
