Batteries Included?

An old red battery-operated device with its cover removed on a wooden table

It’s Christmas morning, sometime in the 1970’s. I unwrap one of my presents and it’s the electronic game I asked for–Operation!

I take it out of the box and get ready to play the game with my younger brother. “It’s not working.” I complain to my oldest brother. He comes over and reads something on the side of the box. Guess what it says?

Batteries not included.

These are three words no one, especially a kid, wants to hear on Christmas morning. There weren’t any D size batteries anywhere in the house, not even ones I could take from a battery-powered something else. Of course, no stores were open to buy some either.

And God is able to make all grace abound toward you, that you, always having all sufficiency in all things, may have an abundance for every good work. 2 Corinthians 9:8 (NKJV)

The maker of Operation! didn’t provide batteries, but God does. The Lord never says, “Well, they’ll just have to figure that out on their own.”

Where God guides, He provides.

What the Lord requires of us is to do simply what we can. He never asks us to do what we can’t. He is there to do what we can’t. FR. Mike Schmitz

Kind reader, God’s provision isn’t just about personal convenience; it’s uniquely functional–down to the smallest detail. He provides the strength, resources, and peace necessary so that you and I can focus entirely on our heaven-sent mission.

His divine power has given to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of Him who called us by glory and virtue. 2 Peter 1:3 (NKJV)

Thank you for reading. 🙏❤️ prayers and love.

This really encouraged me. “Where God guides, He provides” is simple but so true. I embraced the truth that God never calls us without also providing what we need to fulfill His purpose. Thank you for sharing this, brother.

Thank you for sharing this encouraging message today brother David. Not only does our Father God provide the direction and purpose, He also provides the power to obey His call. It reminds me of Duracell batteries advertising as the battery that goes longer; but God’s batteries go forever! God bless you and Nancy today 🙏 🇺🇸 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

Thanks, Dana. I think Operation! is still out there, but now it uses AA batteries—instead of those giant D size.

Nice connection, I loved that game as a kid. Great verses and quotes to tie it all together.

Thanks. Betty. I almost didn’t include this, thinking it sounds like a cliche, but it’s true! God has always included the “batteries” with anything He’s asked me to do. Thanks for stopping by.
