Be Salty. Stay Lit.

It’s been a warm and rainy Spring, and the biting bugs at my house are back. You can’t sit on the porch, any time of day, without being swarmed by mosquitoes.

I’ve started staying inside, just to avoid the onslaught. But this is no way to enjoy the Summer. It’s time to bring out the citronella candles.

These days, it feels the same way spiritually. I can’t step out into the world, without seeing or hearing something that dishonors God. This isn’t me looking down my pious nose at others, it’s wishing I could find something to watch on an airplane that doesn’t offend the Holy Spirit.

Again, I want to stay inside to avoid the onslaught. But this is no way to enjoy the Christian life. It’s time to bring out the salt and light!

Christ spoke of this in his High Priestly Prayer, the night before his crucifixion:

My prayer is not that you take them out of the world but that you protect them from the the evil one…Sanctify them by the truth; your word is truth. John 17:15,17 (NIV)

Kind reader, my friend Rainer, The Devotional Guy, signs off all his posts with this: “Be salty. Stay lit.” There we go! It surely beats staying off the world’s porch.

Thank you for reading. 🙏❤️ Prayers and love.

Amen! May the salt make them thirsty for more of Father God. May the fire of God burn away every chain of darkness and warm the hearts of the lost with his love.

In our world we are exposed to things that dishonor God at nearly every turn, like the annoying gnats and skeeters that come with June in the South. We can protect ourselves, like with a citronella candle, but some days the swarm can be overwhelming. We aren’t meant to keep our light hidden under a basket and we are told to guard our hearts. The Apostle Paul reminds us we are in an eternal battle against the father of lies and his minions. Perhaps, there has never been a more pivotal moment in our Christian faith, than now. It demands being salt and light, agents of Truth, and ambassadors of Christ.

Thanks so much for the shout out. I appreciate you and your encouraging support. I have enjoyed reading your work on your new site (Flash Fiction by David) as well. Keep writing, brother. God has truly gifted you in this endeavor.

A wonderful reminder that when we walk closely to the Lord we will have a positive impact on those around us.
