It started simply enough. Shortly after we remodeled our home, I found a closet door open in the back hallway. “I must have forgotten to close it after I was in there last night,” I convinced myself. But it kept happening. “Sweetheart, were you in the back hallway closet yesterday? I noticed it was left open” My bride of twenty-plus years blithely replied, “No.”
Okay, this was becoming a mystery. There are only two people at my house. And if I wasn’t leaving a closet door open, and my wife wasn’t leaving it open either, then who was? Maybe I needed to start searching for the hidden camera.
Then, one day, while I was sitting across from the hallway closet, typing like I am right now, out of the corner of my eye I saw the door open–all by itself. Frankly, it creeped me out. But I don’t believe in ghosts, so I chalked it up to a faulty strike plate or a weak latch.
We’ve rearranged items in the closet–in case something was pushing against the door–and checked the mechanics of the knob, but it still opens by itself. Eventually, we came to terms with the fact that we have a quirky closet entry point. It took even longer before we realized it was also a sign from God.
I know your deeds. See, I have placed before you an open door that no one can shut. I know that you have little strength, yet you have kept my word and have not denied my name.
Revelation 3:8 (NIV)
Then Jesus said to them again, “Most assuredly I say to you, I am the door of the sheep.”

Kind reader, nothing and nobody can take God’s favor from someone who is safely holding the nail-scarred hand of Christ! He is an open door that no one can shut. Hallelujah!
He who did not spare his own Son, but gave him up for us all–how will he not also, along with him, graciously give us all things?
Romans 8:32 (NIV)
