Reflections on Future Treasures and Faith

At the elementary school where I work, a student came up during morning arrival to show me a shiny circular object. I immediately recognized it was a CR 2032 battery.

“Mr. Duncan, it’s a coin from the future!” said the ecstatic second grader. I gently broke the news to him what it really was.

Later, I found a similar battery at home, a CR 2025. This “coin” is from the present day.

Kind reader: If you and I could each retrieve an object from our lives in 2032–seven years in the future–what would it say about us? I pray it would point to something and someone greater–the God who reigns over all!

But I trust in you, Lord; I say, “You are my God.” My times are in your hands;

Psalm 31:14-15a (NIV)

Thank you for reading. 🙏❤️ prayers and love.

    Agreed, Priscilla! One reason I keep showing up to work, is because I’m surrounded by children who often see things from a sage-like perspective—one that many adults lack.

    I like the kid’s description of the “coin” better than yours.😂 Children have awesome imaginations.

    Short but sweet, impactful words…. I’ll be pondering this now…and oh that God will be glorified in whatever I might be up to.

    I have two 2032’s brother! You are welcome to both if you need them. I use them for my guitar tuner—the one that still takes a replaceable battery.

    Yes, there’s never a dull moment when working with kids. I hope you’re still here in 2032, brother. There is still much of God’s work to do!

    That’s funny…I always had a feeling the Lord would return in 2032. I don’t know why, but that year has always been in my brain…it’s not scriptural, prophetic, or inspired.

    Anyway, if you have any extra 2032’s, my watch died.😆👍🏻

    Wow! Reading this reminds me of how God has spoken to me through events that were beyond circumstantial. I am also concerned about social security being there when I’m ready to retire. Thankfully, God’s heavenly security remains, and will always remain the same.
    Thank you for stopping by, Bridget. I assume, like me, you don’t particularly like surprises. Again, thankfully, God is never surprised. He doesn’t look down and say, “Now, would you look at that?!”

    I’m going to have to sit with this for a bit. The Lord is trying to tell me something here. Three things you touched on were things that were brought up yesterday. My husband was looking around in the house for a CR 2032 battery. I told him I didn’t think we had any on hand. So he was checking other devices to see if he could steal one from something else. And one of the batteries he came across was a CR 2025…. Then last night I was reading an article about how the government is re-evaluating Social Security. By the time I get social security, things will look different. They don’t know yet what the changes will be. But they have to do something. And in the article I believe they said they plan to have it all figured out by 2032! It put a little fear in me about the future. But I am reminded that God is our provider. And He will take care of His children. So thank you for this and the Bible you shared! This was God ordained! (And I love what your second grader said 😂)

    Man, I was excited about the young boy’s find… it’s crazy that 2032 is ONLY 7 years in the future! When did that happen? Hope you and Nancy have a blessed weekend, brother.
