Taking Jesus Along for the Ride

On the day before one of our secretaries had major surgery, our front office staff circled up in the head principal’s office to pray with her.

After we finished, she handed each of us a little rubber Jesus figurine. He’s about one and a half inches tall, and he’s reaching out with both arms and there’s a big smile on his face.

I put the Jesus in my pocket and forgot all about him, until I reached for my key fob, walking out to my car after work, and found him again. I sat him down on the console—facing me as I drove. “This reminds of the song, Jesus, Take the Wheel,” I thought. I planned to take Jesus inside with me that afternoon, when I got home, but I forgot him in the car.

The next day, Nancy drove my car, and she texted me: “I looked down today while I was driving, and there was Jesus!” She went on to say how it reminded her that God is always with us.

We’ve taken turns since then, switching the figurine from my vehicle to hers, and then back again. We also like to surprise each other by putting Jesus in different places. After finding him propped up on the dash, inches from the turn signal stalk, she texted, “Jesus is closer to me than ever!”

The little Jesus from our secretary, the surgery went well and she’s on the mend, serves as a great visible reminder that the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit are not limited by time and space.

Kind reader, when Jesus said, “Lo, I am with you always,” it wasn’t an empty promise. Christ is ready and willing to “ride along” with anyone who will turn their life completely over to Him. Today, and every day, may we be able to say, “Jesus is closer to me than ever!”

Thank you for reading. 🙏❤️ Prayers and love.

Yes! The same secretary shared that her grand daughter handed out little Jesus figures along with the candy on Halloween. You’re right, these aren’t just children!

Our church secretary buys these and puts them on the table where we provide groceries for people in need. It’s interesting that it’s not just children who want one, but lots of adults want one, too! Blessings, David!

Thanks, Peggy. Come to think of it, our secretary who had the surgery said something similar: “We all need a little Jesus.”

First I love that you have that kind of work environment where you can pray with one another. And I love this little Jesus, and how you and your wife have had these fun reminders that Jesus is always near. Thank you for sharing. You brought me a smile today! 😁

I love this: “Because who doesn’t need a little Jesus in their life!”

Hiding the fifty Jesus’s is also epic. Some folks at school went through a phase where they put dozens of little ducks in peoples’ classrooms or offices.

Thanks for reading and sharing. God Bless!

I have a little Jesus looking over me from the top of my monitor. I passed out a bunch of these to folks in an envelope that said, “Because who doesn’t need a little Jesus in their life!” The responses I got were overwhelming. One lady said she got 50 of these and hid them in a friend’s house for them to encounter. The person has found 23 so far and is enjoying being on the lookout for Jesus!

Beautifully said, David. I love the thought of you and Nancy sharing Jesus with each other and placing reminders of Him to each other in different places. Grateful that He remains true to His promises. Great post, brother. Many continued blessings.

I just realized I left our secretary’s motive out of the story, but you nailed it, Pastor Pete! I don’t recall her exact words, but she did say that Jesus is always with us, as she handed out the figurines.

Haha! I love your wife’s response: There was Jesus! This reminds me of so many songs, but I love even more the testimony of your friend’s successful surgery and creative way she had of reminding us that Jesus always goes along for the ride. Thanks Dave!

This is a great post David! That wee figurine is a lovely physical reminder of our ever-present Lord, and could be an effective tool for evangelism too as already proven in this story. God bless you and Nancy today dear brother 🙏 🇺🇸🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿
