Finding Patience: Lessons from the Early Morning

Photo auto-generated by Word Press

Just before sunrise, I stepped off the back porch, coffee cup in hand, and looked for the glow in the Eastern sky. It was a beautiful mix of purplish pink!

I also noticed something in the leafless pear tree just across the fence–birds, silhouetted by the coming sunrise. Two cardinals, and two sparrows were perched silently…waiting.

“Aren’t you little guys hungry?” I said to no bird in particular. “Get out there and start foraging!”

“It helps when they can see what they’re looking for,” said the Holy Spirit, to me in particular.

I wait for the Lord more than watchmen wait for the morning, more than watchmen wait for the morning.

Psalm 130:6 (NIV)

Confession: the times in my life when I’ve waited patiently for the Lord to act turned out a lot better than the ones when I didn’t. Can you relate?

Kind reader, there’s not much use in “foraging” until God sheds some light on our situation. It’s time for us to be patient and wise, like the birds.

Wait on the Lord.

The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases; his mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning; great is your faithfulness.

Lamentations 3:22-23 (ESV)

Thank you for reading. 🙏❤️ Prayers and love.

Agreed, Matthew. Some of my best writing happens around sunrise—shout out to Hemingway. 🤗 I often get ideas in the evening, and they “marinate” over night as I sleep. Then, early the next morning, I start putting them down.
Thanks for reading and commenting. It’s very cold and snowy here in the south central U.S. Very Scot-like weather. 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

I hear you, sister. Sometimes, the wait for a sign from God can seem like a long time. Yet, just yesterday, I clearly felt led by the Holy Spirit to adjust my life to a certain circumstance. I made the step in that direction, and God quickly confirmed I was on the right path. God never seems to hurry, but he’s always right in time. Thanks for stopping by. God Bless!

A great post and reminder to wait on God. This is a reminder I need often. Breakthroughs feel like they come slowly. But God is not on our timetable. And He always knows what’s best and what time is best. Thank you for this encouragement. I needed this. God bless you! 🙏🏻🤍

Our birds were pretty busy today as well. It’s been snowing off and on since yesterday afternoon.

I love the way God inspires you to write great posts from your daily life like seeing those birds in the tree.

Couldn’t agree more with you. Waiting patiently on God has always yielded better outcomes for me than getting ahead of God.

Blessings and keep those posts coming.

It is far sub zero here this weekend. My foragers ate a half feeder full of sunflower seeds before noon today.

How beautiful a photograph and how needed this lesson. Waiting on God and listening to His voice is so important, because He in turn is patiently waiting on us to hear Him and follow in His steps.

Waiting can be hard. I try to use that time to pray for guidance. Beautiful picture of the early morning. Given the forecast for much of the nation, I also thought of the saying my grandmother often quoted, “Pink sky at night, a sailor’s delight. Pink sky in the morning, sailors take warning.”

David, your beautiful photo illustrates waiting on the Lord to shed his light on our situation. Those that wait upon the Lord, will renew their strength and mount up as an eagle.

Ah, a good correlation David. Nice morning picture. It has always amazed me (it shouldn’t, He’s God) at how fast the Holy Spirit can capitalize on seemingly small things and thoughts in real time.

Thanks, David. Alongside patience and seeing what we’re looking for, is there also a lesson here about knowing what we’re looking for before we start foraging? I have friends who are good foragers, but they’re not sure what they’re after..

Waiting is always the best course of action. Here in Colorado we got about 9 inches and more still falling. I keep telling myself that shoveling is a great aerobic workout!

Yes, very hard, at times. At other times, what God wants me to do is clear as a bell.
I hope you and Terri and her mom and dad still have power.

Yes! I’ve learned to wait on the Lord the hard way. Better at it now than I used to be, but still a work in progress.

It sleeted all night long, and snow is on the way. There’s about 2-3 inches of fine powder on the ground. 5-6 more inches coming. No power outages here. Rainer, down in the Dallas area may not have power. I’m checking in with him. Gary emailed and told me he was in Kentucky. Gotta be better weather than Northern Minnesota.
Thanks for stopping by, brother. God Bless.

Better to let God go ahead of us and lead the way.
Is it cold and snowy there? Gary thought he would avoid by being south but Kentucky got snow 🙂

Me too, brother. Just this morning, as I wrote, I pictured Habakkuk waiting on the wall for the Lord’s vision to come to pass. These are troublesome days, but God is still on the throne. Thank you for stopping by my wee blog today. God Bless you and Susan, as well. 🙏🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿🇺🇸
