A teacher at my school is a retired U.S. Army First Sergeant (1SG), which is one of the highest enlisted ranks. As you would expect, to make 1SG takes considerable leadership ability. Consequently, I like to glean administrative wisdom from this person whenever I can.
During a break at one of our back-to-school meetings, I complained to her that I was so busy training to do my job that I didn’t have time to do my job. Word to the wise: if you whine to a retired 1SG, expect to hear a solution.🫡
Life likes to throw you the “curve ball.” You gotta learn how to hit it.
Retired 1SG Owens
Good point! Our earthy existence is not like a baseball Home Run Derby, where every pitch is 60 miles per hour and right down the middle. The real world doesn’t pitch like that. Life likes to throw us curve balls, fast balls, sliders, and everyone’s favorite, the change up. On top of that, we don’t get to call our own pitches. We must learn to hit whatever is thrown to us.
Surprise!😮
My motto was always to keep swinging. Whether I was in a slump or feeling badly or having trouble off the field, the only thing to do was keep swinging.
Hank Aaron, Hall of Fame MLB player
Kind reader, this makes a great spiritual application, as well. Through thick and thin, in our lives of good works God prepared for us to do (Eph. 2:10), the best thing is to keep swinging.
And let us not grow weary while doing good, for in due season we shall reap if we do not lose heart.
Galatians 6:9 (NKJV)
Thank you for reading. 🙏😳 prayers and love.
